Sport: from Barça to the neighborhood run
Sport organizes the Barcelona calendar: the country's most decorated football club, a huge popular athletics tradition and the Montmeló circuit half an hour away. The '92 legacy still shapes the city.
The club
FC Barcelona —més que un club, they say— keeps Europe's largest stadium in Les Corts plus pro sections in basketball, handball and hockey. The derby with Espanyol has split the city for a century.
Running is neighborhood
March's marathon, the Cursa de la Mercè or the Jean Bouin fill streets with popular runners, and the Carretera de les Aigües is the city's linear gym every morning.
Motors and elite
The Barcelona-Catalunya circuit at Montmeló hosts Formula 1 and MotoGP; the city stages worlds and tournaments with the palau Sant Jordi as its multi-purpose star venue.
