Geography: between the sea, the rivers and Collserola

The city occupies a plain of some 170 km² between the sea, the Llobregat river to the southwest, the Besòs to the northeast and the Collserola range to the west. Of that, 101.4 km² are municipality: from 12 meters above sea level in the center to Tibidabo's 512.

The amphitheater

Collserola closes the city from behind with Tibidabo as the landmark visible from almost any street: the feeling of immediate mountain —beach and sierra in the same postcard— is pure geography.

The inner hills

Carmel, Putxet or Turó de la Rovira break the plain with small urbanized hillocks that name whole neighborhoods —and hold some of the city's best free viewpoints.

The neighbors

The municipality borders Santa Coloma and Sant Adrià to the north, the sea to the east, l'Hospitalet and El Prat to the south, and Sant Just, Esplugues, Sant Cugat and Montcada to the west: the urban sprawl is seamless.
