Universities: a campus city
Barcelona has been a university city since 1450, and today combines a strong public system with top international business schools. Campuses are woven into the city: the university has no fences.
The public ones
The University of Barcelona —founded 1450, historic building at plaça Universitat— and Pompeu Fabra, in renovated Born and Ciutadella buildings, top the national rankings.
Polytechnic and private
UPC rules engineering, and on the private side Ramon Llull groups schools like ESADE; EADA and IESE complete the business offering. UAB, another public, lives in Bellaterra on the edge.
The city effect
Terms, residences and room prices next to campus: student Barcelona moves whole neighborhoods September to June, and fills the half-price café.
